My message to the Greece Community...
I will place a priority on direct education costs in meeting the challenge of budgeting reduced resources. I recognize the difficulty that the Greece Community is undergoing with the loss of jobs. I am confident that I can help the School Board build consensus and focus on educating our children.

Statement: A Successful Campaign...
A successful campaign takes a variety of talents, support and concessions. I would like to recognize those individuals and/or groups that provided the fuel for my successful campaign.

May 13, 2004:
Statement...
Some voters have asked me "Who else should I vote for?" The honest and selfish answer is to vote for me and only me. This gives me a vote from a voter who will not equalize their vote by casting more than one. However, I am encouraging voters to vote for as many (up to three) candidates that they are familiar with and can support.

May 5, 2004:
Statement...
I understand that there are two slates of candidates that have been formed from the seven possible candidates. At the end of the "Meet the Candidates Night" on May 3, I was identified by two other candidates as someone that people should consider as a good candidate. I was surprised by this occurrence. While I was happy to have their support I would like it to be clear that I wish to remain an independent candidate.
Please vote for Ken Walsh, #7 on your ballot.
Thank you,
Ken
Views, Opinions and Beliefs
I look forward to serving the community as a school board member who will seek options and compromise.
- I do not support the District’s habit of declaring a contingent budget without a second (less expensive) budget vote. Enacting a contingency budget after an initial budget defeat tells each voter that they do not count.
- I believe an increase in spending, not tax rate, should be limited to 4-5%. The current spending plan would increase spending by over 9%.
- It is my opinion that the Superintendent and administration are dominating the School Board. This has resulted in singular ideas and options in far too many circumstances.
- I believe union contracts should be for shorter periods of time. It is difficult to predict, with confidence, the economic cycle two, three or four years in advance.
- I believe the new elementary report cards are appropriate for grades K-2. I do not think .they give enough constructive feedback for students in grades 3-5.
- I am for a reduction in the amount of glossy district documents sent home while schools struggle to gain resources (paper and “click counts”) to support instruction.
- I would vote for closer bus stops for K-2, licensed in-home childcare and moving dangerous bus stops. I do not support a roll back of all bus stops at a cost of $850,000. There must be a compromise that is more cost efficient.
